Advice for young people on tumblr
Shoplifting is okay and pretty cool
“stealing merchandise from a shop and causing the company to lose profits as result is okay! it does NOT hurt the economy at all :)”
alright i’ve been on Tungle dot Net for a few years and I’ve seen some pretty wild stuff but this has to be one of the worst posts i’ve seen in a while lmao.
shoplifting hurts businesses, the economy, and shoppers. Yes, shoplifting hurts YOU too. When you shoplift, you’re taking money from a company and all because you didn’t feel like paying fifty-nine cents for a snickers bar. Fifty-nine cents adds up. Companies have to ramp up prices on their products when shoplifting continues to occur to make up for the lost profits. This just makes things even harder for people to pay for, and this hurts lower-class families who struggle to pay for things that are basic necessities. People LOSE THEIR JOBS when companies / businesses fail and are forced to let people go since they just can’t earn enough profits because said “young people” are stealing them. Plus, you know who gets blamed when disgusting, selfish teenagers who steal shit for fun sneak away? THE WORKERS. Stop getting in the way of people just trying to do their jobs and earn a couple dollars.
Now, I understand people stealing some fruit or a loaf of bread from a grocery store for their family. You need food to survive and sometimes money is hard to come by. But you shouldn’t just shoplift “for fun” or “just because you feel like it” or “because the-church-of-no-recess on tumblr.com told you to”. But businesses suffer when people from financially stable families steal clothes and the like just because they can. Middle class teenagers love to get a kick out of harming businesses, i guess. That’s super shitty of you lmfao. There’s a difference between someone of a lower class or someone who has unemployed parents stealing a couple food items and some rich teenager who thinks shoplifting is “cool” and does it just for the street cred they inevitably receive when they say with a smug grin that “yeah, they’ve stolen something before”.
You can argue all day about how the “1% WANTS you to pay ACTUAL MONEY” for goods and services and that shoplifting is “designed by reactionaries to distract proletarians from the kleptocratic actuality of bourgeois late capitalist society.” but in the end, you’re hurting businesses, the economy, and yourself. Your fancy words you got off of thesaurus.com aren’t changing this. Shoplifting isn’t cool. Breaking the law isn’t as cool as tumblr makes it out to be. The reality of breaking the law isn’t like all those tumblr grunge aesthetic posts people share. Theft isn’t some cool “stick it to the man!” spiel.
But hey, what do I know? It’s not like I have friends and relatives who were let off of work because their businesses just couldn’t afford to pay them anymore because spoiled brats like you kept waltzing in and stealing abercrombie t-shirts or anything. You’re robbing people of their salaries, and your fancy words aren’t changing this fact, either. The cost of salaries are often the biggest costs for businesses, and it’s kinda hard to pay people when you keep stealing their merch “just because”.
